Message From the King is about the journey that Jacob King (Chadwick Boseman) undertakes to locate his sister, Bianca (Sibongile Mlambo).  Living in Cape Town, South Africa, he receives a distressed message from her, stating she is in serious trouble in Los Angeles, California.

Despite their strained relationship, he travels to the United States for a week’s stay to locate her.  However, he soon discovers that Bianca, her husband and his son are missing.

Going to her home, Jacob meets her neighbor, Trish (Natalie Martinez), who gives him a bag that Bianca left behind.  As he seeks leads to the possible whereabouts of his sister, he discovers that she became heavily involved with the criminal underworld.

Trying to put the pieces, which include a dentist, Dr. Wentworth (Luke Evans), and a producer,  Preston (Alfred Molina), of this corrupt puzzle together lends him to possibly being victimized next.  The only assistance he has is from Kelly (Teresa Palmer), who, at times works as a prostitute to support herself and young daughter.

Will Jacob find Bianca in the seven days he has approved to be in the States and to what extent will he go to get her back?

Message From the King has either been loved or disregarded.  However, its fans really support the film.  Since the tragic and unexpected passing of Chadwick Boseman, this film has become a cult classic.

Filmed primarily in Glendale, California, Message From the King premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.  It was made available on Netflix the following year.
